JetBlue Responds
JetBlue has responded to my email yesterday as follows:
Re: e-mail received Tuesday, 09/16/03 12:37 PM, Speak Up 479047
Hello Tom,
Thank you for your e-mail and for raising several important privacy issues. Let me assure you, JetBlue shares your concerns.
Contrary to reports, JetBlue has not entered into an agreement to implement the CAPPS II program with the Transportation Security Administration. Further, no JetBlue customer information has been provided for purposes of testing the CAPPS II program currently under design.
We respect and support the important work of the TSA and, like other US carriers, we?re proud to have a close working relationship with them.
JetBlue has always placed the highest priority on the safety and security of our customers and crew. We were the first to outfit our entire fleet with bulletproof, Kevlar-plated cockpit doors after 9-11, for example.
Thank you for the opportunity to clarify the speculation surrounding our ongoing work on improved security. We hope to continue to have the pleasure of serving you aboard JetBlue. Hope all your skies are JetBlue!
Charese

JetBlue scandal
Someone on IRC told me about this... "JetBlue Airways confirmed on Thursday that in September 2002, it provided 5 million passenger itineraries to a defense contractor for proof-of-concept testing of a Pentagon project unrelated to airline security -- ...
Comments:
I shall never fly JetBlue, merely because of this. Translated from PR speech, her response indicates that they are, indeed, testing the CAPPS II system.

I hardly see what you mean.

I think brandon is referring to the semantics of:
"Contrary to reports, JetBlue has not entered into an agreement to implement the CAPPS II program with the Transportation Security Administration. Further, no JetBlue customer information has been provided for purposes of testing the CAPPS II program currently under design."
This does leave the loophole of "oh well we're just testing, that's all" or "we're using dummy information based semi-randomly on our customer DBs."
It's sort of X-files to assume, but they do have that out.
Personally, I'm pretty happy, as I can continue to use their air service without feeling I'm opening myself up to greater privacy encroachment.

Charese lied... They did share customer information.

Mike, the Wired article acknowledges that the information about JetBlue in that article is pretty much just a rumor. And with all the crap lately about journalists providing bad info, I'm inclined to give JetBlue the benefit of the doubt.

Slashdot has a story on JetBlue. It also mentions the Wired article in addition to other information.
