Open Letter to Steve Jobs

Dear Steve,

Congratulations on a great event today. The new iPods are a big step up for Apple, and I'm glad to see them coming before Christmas. However, I do have one major issue. On July 29th, I spent the better part of my day camped out to buy an 8GB iPhone for myself. I spent $600 for the privilege, and while I did expect the price to come down, I didn't expect it to come down in 6 weeks. I feel very disappointed, and a little bit ripped off. For the last six weeks, I have been Apple's unpaid iPhone evangelist for both my clients and my friends, and all those people who ask, "Hey! Is that an iPhone?? How do you like it?"

To be repaid with a near-immediate price drop is a major frustration that leaves me very upset and not more than a little tarnished with Apple right now. We were your vanguard to the consumer world, for all those guys out there that were on the fence, we talked them over to your side. We were the ones out there letting our friends try it out for a bit, make a call, watch a video, download a silly YouTube, and do the things that made the difference for them. I'd have understood seeing it get cheaper in another 3 or 4 months, I'd have been okay with that, but just six weeks later? I feel ripped off.

Apple can make things right, though, either by coming up with a refund for the difference, or maybe Apple Store/iTunes Store credit, for those of us who were out and about in the world with your iPhones after July 29th. It'd be the right thing to do.

Best Regards,

Tom Bridge
